Play Up Your Beautiful Eyes!

Now that the warm (hot!) weather and need for simple, light makeup has past, it’s time to have fun with beautiful fall colors!!

I love this new Arbonne Sugar Plum Baked Eye Shadow palette. The colors are right on point will the current trends yet are also quite timeless. Wine and purple shades are super popular, as are golden bronze hues.

I recommend using the purple Plumberry and bronze Gingersnap from the upper lash line into the crease, as a pop of color for a special evening out. It could also be used to accent the lower lash line.

The creamy Icing shade is a perfect highlighter for the inner corners of the eye or a light swipe below the brow bone.

The chocolate brown Ganache is gorgeous and works well as a contour color in the crease and to line along the upper and lower lashes.

Happy Fall!!!Play Up Your Beautiful Eyes!

Nurture Your Eyes

The skin around our eye area is so delicate and thin. Here are my top tips for nurturing this precious eye area with a little extra TLC!

  1. Do not use rough washcloths around the eye area. I primarily use the delicate touch of my ring and middle fingers for application and a soft tissue, cotton ball or Q-tip for removal.
  2. Apply your eye cream both day and night to protect, nourish and moisturize.
The RE9 Corrective Eye Cream is ideal to target fine lines, darkness and puffiness. The RE9 Lifting and Contouring Eye Cream tightens, firms and lifts the fragile eye tissue.Nurture Your EyesNurture Your Eyes
  3. Before applying your concealer, add a sheer layer of primer to fill fine lines, lock in moisture and act as the “glue” to hold your concealer in place with minimal creasing.Nurture Your Eyes
    1. Lastly, after your primer has had a few minutes to set, apply your concealer. You can use a concealer brush, but I find that the warmth of your ring finger helps blend the makeup into your skin smoothly and evenly.Nurture Your Eyes

Perfecting the Bottom Line

Articles frequently give tips on how to line your upper lashes, but what about defining your lower lash line?
Here is my go-to technique, that is perfect day and night, for enhancing your sparkling eyes.

  1. Apply eye cream, primer and concealer to smooth and even out the delicate skin under the eyes.
  2. Use a soft neutral toned pencil to line all the way across your lower eyelid, from the outer to inner corner. My favorite is this Toffee liner by Arbonne.,1267,265.aspx
Note- if you would like for your eyes to look BIGGER, line just BELOW your lash line; to make your eyes look SMALLER, line just ABOVE or on top of the lash line.

Perfecting the Bottom Line1

Dip a small brush in a similar neutral matte shadow and smudge it directly on top of your liner. This softens the line in addition to setting it, increasing its wear time. I use Sand Eye Shadow by Arbonne.,2875,265.aspxPerfecting the Bottom Line1

Line Time!

Line Time! Here are the top 4 reasons why you should take the time to line your lovely lips before applying your lipstick or gloss!

Reason #1- A high quality lip liner creates a barrier where you have lined, so that your lipcolor doesn’t cross the border and bleed into the fine lines around your mouth. I love Arbonne’s lip liners because they glide on smooth and creamy and stay put. Throw your dry, #2 pencil-like liners away!!

Reason #2- Lining and filling in the entire lip prior to applying lipstick provides extra staying power, so you won’t have to reapply as often.

Reason #3- Lip liners allow you to create a smooth, even outline, for a perfectly polished look that using gloss or lipstick alone cannot create.

Reason #4- With just 1 lipstick, 1 gloss and 1 lip liner you can create a variety of different color and texture combinations!! Try liner with just gloss on top, liner with lipstick, and liner with both lipstick and gloss, like this beautiful trio here. Arbonne’s Fuschia Lip Liner, Camellia Lipstick and Cosmos Lip Gloss. Gorgeous!

Sweet Summer Smile

Summer is here and the sun is shining. 🙂 Here are my top tips for lovely lips and long lasting color!

Step 1) Exfoliate dry, chapped lips using a gentle cleanser with granules or make your own by mixing a bit of sugar and moisturizer together. Once exfoliated, pat dry and apply balm to keep lips soft and smooth.

*At this point you could also use a lip primer, which acts as a base to help grab hold of your liner and lipstick and increase their staying time. Two good options are Lip Insurance by Too Faced and Prep+Prime Lip by M.A.C.Sweet Summer Smile Sweet Summer Smile

Step 2) Line and fill in lips. Natural, flesh toned lip liners are often the best choice. You can use liner to even out the shape of your lips or to draw in/outside the natural line to create smaller or larger lips.Sweet Summer Smile

Step 3) Apply your lipstick from the tube or with a small lip brush for added precision.Sweet Summer Smile

Step 4) Gently blot to remove oils and press color into lips.

Step 5) Apply a second layer of lipstick.

Step 6) Set your lipstick with powder. This can be done after each layer of lipstick. The easiest technique is to lay a thin 1-ply layer of tissue on top of your lips and lightly dust loose or pressed powder on top.Sweet Summer Smile

Step 7) Add a touch of light gloss on the center of your lower lip to add fullness and shine.Sweet Summer Smile

Step 8) Use a Q-tip to clean up the edges. Now enjoy the sunshine and forget about needing to touch up your lips!!Sweet Summer Smile

A Little Spring Cleaning

Happy Spring!! Each year around this time I get the itch to clean my house, closets and drawers more thoroughly. For some reason I feel the need to make a fresh start, and cleaning and getting rid of unused items gives me a sense of peace.

As you are sprucing up and clearing out your home, take the time to look at your makeup drawer too! Get rid of old and broken items, and colors that you bought on a whim but no longer look right. Check out this post from last spring to make sure you are throwing out old products at the appropriate time-

Ideally, you should be cleaning your makeup brushes and throwing out disposable sponges on a weekly basis. At the very minimum make sure you are doing so AT LEAST once a month. One cleansing option is to mix a small amount of mild soap or shampoo (baby shampoo works great) in a bowl with warm water. Dip your brushes into the solution and lather the bristles well before rinsing. I then lay my brushes on a towel to air dry, letting the bristles hang off the edge of the counter. Do not submerge your brushes in water, as it can damage where the bristles/hair are glued to the base!

There are also some great spray brush cleaners that make daily cleansing super easy. Simply spray the bristles and wipe the brush on a clean cloth. This will remove excess product from your brushes. Some of the spray cleaners also contain alcohol, which will disinfect your brushes as well.A Little Spring Cleaning

Love those Lips!

It’s time to put away your soft summer lipgloss and revel in the gorgeous RED and WINE lip colors that are huge trends this fall and winter!

To find the perfect shade without wasting money, I recommend going to a makeup counter at the mall, or a retail store like Ulta or Sephora, where you can test out products first. As I am sure you may know, red is not just “red.” There are hundreds of shades, formulas and textures to choose from.

Darker red and wine hues are beautiful, but keep in mind that the darker and more matte you go, the more “harsh” and potentially aging the look can be. You may find a bright, sheer option that works well for the daytime and a deeper more matte color for evening.

Enjoy playing with these new seasonal colors!Love those Lips!

2 Favorites for Fall!

One of my favorite brands, Urban Decay, is having a fall sale and I wanted to pass it along!

Now through October 12th, 2013, you can go to and receive 20% off your order using the code FFHOLIDAY13.

There are 2 products that I HIGHLY recommend:

1.  Eyeshadow Primer Potion- this is their top selling product and has made a pretty big name for itself because it WORKS! Squeeze a small amount from the tube and blend the creamy formula all over your eye lids. Allow a few minutes to set before applying your eyeshadow. It will keep your eye makeup vibrant and in place all day, and also prevents creasing. It comes in several shades and can even be worn alone. Below is the “Original” formulat that I use most often, which is nude.

2. Naked Palette- you get 12 gorgeous eyeshadow colors, some matte and others more metallic. It has everything you need for day, night and special occasions, with a full range of earth toned colors. The palette below is the original, but there is also a Naked 2 Palette as well. You can’t go wrong with either one.2 Favorites for Fall! (2)
